Gear Review: 1000 Mile Walk Repreve Single Layer socks

Gear Review: 1000 Mile Walk Repreve Single Layer socks

With over 30 years experience, it is no wonder that the 1000 Mile sock range has a stellar reputation among hikers and trail runners alike. The name states their aim I guess, although, an update will be needed if we reach the 1000 mile mark in these socks as to how true it is.

We were sent two pairs of these socks to try out – and at the first opportunity we headed out into the Peak District to put them through their paces.

Firstly, I loved the look of these socks and, although they felt a bit looser fitting than some other socks that I have tested, they are super comfortable. As a single-layer 3 season sock they are also perfect for walking in most conditions. On one of our adventures we hiked Kinder Scout in the Peak District in the snow and ice, and my feet were comfortable the whole time. The ventilation zones and mix of fibres are perfect for allowing your feet to breathe and keep an even temperature.

These socks are mostly made up from recycled nylon which makes them eco-friendly, and the rest of the material is made up of polymide and elastane.

  • Loop stitched pile gives lots of volume and protection.
  • Padded heel and toe panels, a flat toe seam and arch bracing help to provide a customised fit with no slippage
  • Less chance of blisters
  • 78% REPREVE®Nylon 6
  • 20% Polymide
  • 2% Elastane

Priced at £21 for a twin pack they are great value for money – you really do need to invest in your kit – especially in winter.

Living on the edge of the Peak District means there is no shortage of great walks on our doorstep, however, you often find yourself trekking through very boggy ground. Combined with a good pair of walking boots, the socks performed extremely well over a number of lengthy walks in the hills.

As stated above, one of the walks was in deep snow and ice – at no point did my feet feel uncomfortable or too cold. This is the third pair of 1000 Mile socks I’ve owned, and in my opinion the best pair so far. They’re long enough to come above my hiking boot collar, and across all of the hikes I have put them through, there has been no slippage whatsoever. We also tested a women’s pair, with the same conclusion. They’re good value, comfortable, nicely padded and have performed well over long hikes.
