Meet Carv 2: The real-time ski coaching system that clips on your boot
Carv, the leader in digital ski coaching technology, has unveiled the next evolution of its cutting-edge hardware: Carv 2. This groundbreaking device transforms ski coaching by providing detailed post-ski run analysis and real-time feedback on any terrain, with zero installation required.
Unlike previous generations of Carv, which required installation into the boot and were primarily tuned for on-piste analysis, Carv 2 breaks new ground. With a sensor that clips to the top of a ski boot in seconds, detects the snow type under your feet, and coaches you with audio tips, it’s all about bringing the magic of real-time coaching to every skier.
By eliminating the need for inserts or boot fittings, Carv 2 offers a hassle-free experience, empowering skiers to elevate their performance anywhere on the mountain. It offers the most advanced technique analysis on the market, but it’s designed to make coaching simple and accessible.
The device analyses every move and provides real-time feedback
Carv 2 is a compact sensor that clips onto the strap of each ski boot in seconds. Weighing just 47 grams, it captures high-resolution motion data using a 6-axis gyroscope and accelerometer. The data is then sent via Bluetooth to the Carv app, which analyzes your skiing technique and provides real-time, personalised coaching through your headphones.
“Carv 2 changes everything,” says Jamie Grant, CEO of Carv. “We’ve listened to our community and developed a solution that offers the flexibility, and ease of use skiers have been asking for, combined with an increase in accuracy that makes it our most powerful product to date.
“We built Carv 2 for every skier, regardless of their gear or terrain. Whether you’re blasting through powder, navigating your first bumps, or carving down the piste, Carv 2 is your constant companion, analysing every move and providing real-time feedback to help you improve with every turn.
“Carv 2 is designed to work with any boot and on any terrain,” Grant explains. “We’ve taken everything we’ve learned over 7 years of development to put the power of Carv’s analysis in a dramatically smaller and more powerful product.”
Motion AI technology allows for tailored ski coaching
Thanks to a breakthrough in measurement and analysis, Carv 2 offers greater accuracy than any previous pressure-based Carv sensor system. The new motion sensor creates a high- resolution biometric model of boot movement, decoding nuances in your technique. This is made possible by Carv’s Large Motion Model AI, built on a database of over 500 million turns.
In addition, Carv 2 can automatically detect the snow surface being skied on, allowing the skier to get coaching that is tailored to the snow type as well as their ability.
“In the past, our algorithms were primarily focused on piste skiing,” Grant adds. “With Carv 2, we’re bringing that same level of expertise to every type of terrain – from bumps to off-piste. No matter where you ski, Carv 2 will automatically detect the snow type and adjust the coaching to fit your specific needs.”
The compact sensor makes ski coaching accessible
“Carv 2 represents a new era for skiing,” says Grant. “Our mission has always been to make world-class ski coaching accessible to everyone. With Carv 2, we’ve taken a giant leap forward in achieving that goal.”
Carv 2 is included at no additional cost with every Carv membership, priced at $249 per year. Existing Carv members are eligible for a free upgrade to the Carv 2 sensor.
The new all-terrain software update is available to existing Carv members, bringing all-terrain coaching to both new and previous Carv devices.
