After the successful launches in 2022 of its first two properties – L’Étoile des Baux in Les Baux-de-Provence and Les Bords du Lac in Hossegor – Iconic House is now opening Le 1550: an iconic chalet in the mountains which will showcase another side to Courchevel.

Co-founded by Thibaud Elzière, a French tech entrepreneur, and his brother Robin Michel, Iconic House aims to revolutionise the traditional hotel industry by offering the first private collection of luxury holiday rentals, combined with services worthy of the very best hotels and a wide range of local experiences during guests’ stays.

Le 1550 is right by the slopes in the heart of Les Trois Vallées, the largest ski area in the world, in the unspoilt hamlet of Les Brigues in Courchevel 1550.

Iconic House’s two founders, who are both fans of skiing and ski touring, were immediately won over by the property’s location. Built over three floors, the chalet in the mountains overlooks the Dent du Villard and the snowy peaks of the Vanoise.

The property in the Alps boasts a unique take on mountain living and décor which combines various vintage pieces and made-to-measure furniture, an omnipresence of wood and strong aesthetic choices, developed with the help of Joséphine Fossey, an interior designer and art curator.

For the third property in its collection, Iconic House’s owners have worked closely with Atelier Giffon, a Lyon-based interior design agency.

After nine months of renovations and the addition of an extension which blends seamlessly with the original building, the chalet has eight comfortable bedrooms, each boasting an ensuite bathroom and a unique design, featuring plenty of curiosities. These bedrooms include a family suite and three semi-underground hideaways which boast gorgeous mountain views.

On the property’s main floor, the professional kitchen is pleasingly cosy, making it the ideal place to sit down together for breakfast.

Boasting a wonderfully inviting feel, the large living room, the chalet’s centrepiece, features a fireplace built on a piece of granite, hewn from Mont Blanc and weighing nearly seven tonnes. Its huge picture windows overlook the mountains, encouraging guests to sit back and relax. On the ceiling, the patterns painted on the beams by Atelier Felicita echo the modernist feel of the buildings in Flaine.

After a long day on the slopes, there’s nothing better than gathering round the brazier on the outdoor terrace, surrounded by fir trees, and sipping a hot chocolate or a local beer, brewed just 15 minutes from the chalet.

Featuring a heated indoor swimming pool, sauna and steam room, a fully equipped gym, a yoga studio and a herbal tea room, the Sport & Wellness area is worthy of the very best hotels.

The Kids’ Paradise, one of Iconic House’s signature concepts, was developed with Smallable: it’s the ultimate playroom, featuring climbing holds and a colourful mural to create “a den for little explorers”.

The chalet’s seemingly endless amenities and services also feature an incredible ski room in which you can get ready before hitting the slopes – which are just metres away – along with a cosy home cinema with a giant screen, L’Épicerie (an XXL take on the traditional hotel minibar, found in the kitchen), a massage room and more.

Guests will be given the keys to Le 1550 by Alison, whose family has lived in Courchevel for several generations. Driven by her desire to provide the high level of service for which Iconic House is renowned, she is incredibly detail-oriented and loves nothing more than sharing her favourite spots and creating haute-couture stays for the chalet’s guests.

“This winter, our guests can spend a day skiing with Yorick Vion, the legendary mountaineer who climbed Annapurna without assistance, no matter what their level, turn a childhood dream into reality by driving a huge snow groomer, enjoy some dog sledding or treat themselves to an exclusive signature treatment featuring everlasting flowers in the chalet’s treatment room,” says Robin Michel, who co-founded Iconic House.
