CampWild: The new platform creating wild camping experiences on private land
CampWild is the UK’s first wild camping platform – it was set-up in 2023 with the aim of reconnecting more people with nature, creating amazing micro adventures and wild camping experiences – but uniquely on private land.
The team works with landowners to ‘unlock’ access to private land so people can responsibly explore and wild camp at permitted locations for the night.
The venture is the brain child of Alex and Tom who wanted to give everyone the chance to experience wild camping regardless of experience levels.
“Tom and I have spent a lifetime wild camping and heading outside on adventures” said Alex. “Over the course of our journey, it has become so clear to us how life-changing spending time in nature, particularly under the stars, can be.
“For us, that was as good a reason as any to create something that made the experiences we’ve gained so much from accessible to everyone. Not only through connections to wild spaces but also by building education, tools, and a community that can support and inspire others to start their journey.”
Currently CampWild has over 150 Wild Spaces in the most extraordinary corners of private land across England, Wales and Scotland – from working farms and a Celtic temperate rainforest to land holdings on the banks of lakes, streams and waterfalls, wildflower meadows, and in dense woodlands.
Members of the CampWild community are able exclusively book these Wild Spaces for the day and night, so they can truly escape from the day to day, be at one with the surroundings, and enjoy a micro adventure in the natural environment.
It costs £20 a year to join CampWild and access the platform (this includes not just you, but your household), and then Wild Spaces can be booked and are on average around £20 per night. Importantly once you’ve booked, no one else can – so you will exclusively have the Wild Space to yourself for the duration of your visit!
It’s a great way to try Wild Camping if you’ve never had a go, in a safe, trusted and private location, with varying degrees of ‘wildness’ depending on your needs. It’s a great option for hikers looking to incorporate wild camping into a multi-day trail.
If you’re looking for advice on venturing into the world of wild camping for the first time, Alex suggests: “Keep it simple! For your first wild camping trip, beg borrow and steal gear where possible and choose an accessible location.
“The CampWild platform makes it easy to find somewhere and the space will be exclusively yours for the evening, you will also be supported with Kit and Wild Grades to match your experience level along with a route card for the space.
“Start where you feel comfortable, and if you’re nervous, go with a friend. It’s all about building confidence and enjoying the adventure.”
